As part of my Master of Research in Equine Science degree, I undertook a pedigree analysis of every unique pony that competed in an Individual Final at the FEI European Pony Championships in showjumping, dressage and eventing between 2015 and 2025 (excluding 2020).
Pedigree information for each pony was manually researched and recorded before being used to develop a novel sire-ranking system incorporating direct-sire, sire's-sire, dam's-sire and performance points. The study also examined breed composition, recurring sire x dam's-sire combinations ('nicks'), influential dams and wider pedigree patterns within elite sport pony populations.

Disclaimer: While every effort was made to ensure accuracy, these results should not be considered definitive. Multiple data errors, inconsistencies and conflicting pedigree records were encountered during the research. Pedigree and breed information was cross-referenced wherever possible to improve reliability.
